Seychellois Artist - Daniel Dodin

DANIEL DODIN ARTIST'S STATEMENT   The new series of work that I have created expresses aspects of my everyday life in visual narrative forms. In many of my works I depict the ordinary struggles of local youngsters, many of whom are facing addiction problems whilst dealing with social discrimination. Some of this series reflects the plight of displaced refugees – sadly a common and worldwide concern. Elsewhere I have included and revealed a number of Indian characters due to my familiarity with Indian society. I feel that Indian people number amongst the key activists in the history of the Seychelles – they have always had a major role to play here. Within a local context I find the relatively recent phenomenon of the bottle collectors fascinating. These young men have unique characters; they spend their days making long journeys carrying big bags on their heads which are filled with empty plastic bottles (which they sell). EDEN ART SPACE 2018 – RECENT DEVELOPMENTS AND UPCOMING EVENTS   All Arterial members are encouraged to visit the association's gallery Eden Art Space located in the Eden Plaza.  Michella Marzocchi manages the gallery that is also home to the administration of Arterial Sesel, with Michelle Griffiths managing the ANS day-to-day operations. Pop in for a coffee and a browse of the latest Affordable Art show, which runs into the new year. By the way, the main reason for writing this is that now we have to purchase a coffee machine, something which is long overdue. There are other recent purchases which we are happy to tell you about; ·          A 65” television monitor and DVD player. We will use this to showcase the short films featuring Seychelles artists (see below) as well as promote other gallery events. ·          Shelving units for the office area.
